Fabrics, colors and designs widely vary while some fabric designs keep showing up through the years. Did you know that some fabric dyes were poisonous and people actually died from them? You will see fabric samples and quilts of different time periods. Did you know quilt fabrics, styles and colors are clues to possible dates, regions, and other clues that your quilt will actually talk with you? Let’s look at different quilts and see what they have to say. This is a fascinating step through history with the fabric of our lives.
A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS – QUILTS OF FRIENDS AND STORIES
All quilts tell a story. Inscribed “signature”, friendship and memory quilts provide us with these stories. We will look at the history and how powerful these quilts are to ourselves and families. Many antique or vintage quilts have clues that can be researched to provide amazing stories, patterns, regional clues and sometimes describe tragic events of the past. We will journey through several quilt “stories” while learning ways to make your own special memories.
WHAT ARE QUILT APPRAISALS AND WHY DO WE NEED THEM?
Did you know through an appraisal or a verbal consultation, we can tell you basics about your quilt you may not have known. Did you know your quilts could have value? Why do you need an appraisal? What’s the purpose? How do we determine values? Is there more than one kind of appraisal? Does your quilt qualify for a written appraisal or would you like to just know more about it? Whether it’s an old or newly made we will look at how values are determined. Quilt appraisals are a legal document. During this lecture we will discuss why appraisals are important and how we determine the values.
